International Women’s Day is a worldwide celebration of the many achievements that women have made throughout history. On March 8th every year, we are reminded of the progress that women have made over time and of the many female figures who continue to inspire us each and every day. International Women’s Day is also a great time to reflect on your own achievements while feeling empowered to accomplish your personal goals! However, it doesn’t have to be the only opportunity where you make time to empower yourself. Check out these things you can do to feel empowered this International Women’s Day, and every day of the year.
1. Strengthen Your Body and Mind
Feeling empowered on the inside starts with strengthening your body on the outside. Your body is your vehicle for navigating the world, and daily exercise is a great way to ensure that it stays in tip top condition. Exercise can mean something different to everyone – from jogging around the neighborhood, to lifting weights at the gym, to practicing yoga poses in your living room. Whatever your preferred exercise routine is, your body is becoming stronger and more empowered with every session. Exercise doesn’t only impact your body, but it can directly affect your mood. Every release of endorphins can help eliminate stress and make you feel happier! When your mind and body are in sync, you can conquer the world.
2. Dress to Impress (Yourself)
What you wear can directly affect the way you feel. Dressing to impress doesn’t have to mean dressing up for the approval of others, but by wearing the clothes that make you feel good! Wearing a bra that accentuates your shape and feels comfortable against your skin can work wonders when it comes to your overall look. A pair of jeans that flatter your figure without feeling too tight on your body can give you the boost of confidence you need to take on the day! Sporting staple pieces that you love and feel good in is an easy way to feel empowered all day long.
3. Be Open to New Possibilities
Opening your mind to new and different opportunities in life is another way you can feel more empowered. This could be as simple as adjusting the layout of your bedroom or as complex as completely switching your career path. Change can often be perceived as a scary, anxiety-inducing time, but it can also be embraced as a point in your life where you make a situation better for yourself! So the next time a new idea is proposed, don’t be so quick to disregard the possibility of trying something new. New opportunities can help you learn more about yourself, develop different perspectives and grow as a human being.
4. … But Don’t Be Afraid to Say No
Though it’s important to embrace new challenges, many people find it difficult to say this one simple word: No! Saying “no” isn’t always a bad thing – sometimes, shying away from opportunities that you know won’t be beneficial in the long run is the best choice you can make for yourself. It’s also important to get better at saying “no” because it helps you stay focused on your personal goals and dreams. Giving yourself the choice to say “no” gives you more control over your own destiny, which can help you feel stronger and more empowered as a person.
5. Practice Self-Care
Similar to exercise, taking care of yourself is a great way to feel empowered, inside and out. Showing yourself some love can mean different things to different people, like giving yourself a manicure, writing in a journal or grabbing lunch with a best friend. Self-care can also mean doing something that benefits your body and soul, such as getting enough sleep and drinking plenty of water. In order to feel empowered and embrace the life you live, you have to feel good about yourself! And self-care is a great way to show yourself just how much you matter.
6. Take Action
If you’re unhappy with a system or policy in place and want your voice to be heard, don’t be afraid to take action! In support of International Women’s Day, take what you’re passionate about, share your ideas with others, and make change happen for the better. This can be done by joining a march or a rally and advocating for what you believe in. It could also mean logging into social media and connecting with others who share similar beliefs. One of the best ways to feel empowered is by standing up for what you believe in and fighting for your right to do so.
