Founded in 2004, New York City-based brand Marchesa established their signature style of ‘romantic sentiment’ during the brand’s beginnings. The theme has continued and emanates through their recent Fall/Winter 2020 collection. The brand was named as an homage to Italian socialite, heiress, and muse Marchesa Luisa Casati.
With founder Georgina Chapman at the helm, design director Anna Holvik brought spirit and strength to this collection, Holvik said the fall collection felt like “turning a page.” According to Vogue, Marchesa approached this collection with renewed energy.
The Collection
Lightweight and breezy were the themes throughout this collection. The subtle embellishments are beautiful and appropriate. The belted evening gowns added just enough ornamentation to distinguish it from the other designs. As did the gold evening gown with the rose flower detail. The roses symbolize love and romance in quite a stunning design.
The selection of the model for this collection was spot-on. She exuded a softness that was commensurate with the romanticism of the collection. She also projected a strong expression which was attuned to a no-nonsense demeanor that worked well with the boldness of the designs.
