Interview with Wedding Planner Sarah Miller in Her Own Words
What is your background? How long have you been a wedding planner?
I was fortunate enough to grow up in a very artistic family! My mom and best friend gave me the opportunity as a young girl to be thrown into her interior design career and all things beautiful. From there it stuck and from a young age I worked in the interior design world. After wanting to plan my own wedding in 2010 I fell in love with weddings and decided that was the next plan. I left Atlanta in 2010 and moved to Nashville, TN to start this career. I worked for a wedding planning company for a few years and realized as a wife and mom of two it was time to head out on my own. In 2017, Southern Vine & Co. was established, and it has been the most amazing life with the total support of my husband and family.
What is the most rewarding part about being a wedding planner?
The most rewarding part of being a wedding planner is hands down the euphoric feeling of creating the most important events in someone’s life and seeing them come to life. From the reactions of the couple and family to what I am thankful I get to witness is so emotional!
What inspires you most about a couple?
Their stories! When you have such a big role to uphold on such a big day its all about getting to know your clients and creating a relationship with them. Its not just about event planning, it’s about diving in and caring about every little detail.
What do couples not spend enough time or money on when planning their wedding?
As a wedding planner we handle all those details for them and help them talk about Smart Money and Dumb Money. It’s all about the specific needs of each client and what might be more important than not. We take all that and try and maximize their budget while saving them time. Hire a wedding planner first is what I always tell someone just engaged. It will save you countless hours of research and money in the long run.
How do you deal with difficult family dynamics?
Being a wedding planner, you must be able to not just to plan an event but to be their friend and be able to talk through situations. I am not saying that is always fun, but it comes along with it. Let us just say I wear many hats and still love what I do to this day! You can’t put a timeframe to wedding planning, it has to be all about creating a relationship to make it work!!
What motivates you to go above and beyond for your clients?
Oh wow, so many things, but I am honestly in love with design and creating one-of-a-kind events that my couples could never dream of. Its all about the personal touches and really digging deep to bring those out and show them a wedding that showcases them and or something that is so important to them.
