Healthy, clear skin is imperative to looking and feeling great on your wedding day. It’s the foundation for great makeup. If your skin is on point, your makeup will glide on effortlessly and will look even better. So it’s important to plan out a routine skincare regimen that will help ensure a healthy glow on this special day.

The Better Skin Co. Co-founder and skincare guru Murphy Bishop created the following guide (below) that spans a whole year out from your wedding day. The Better Skin Co. believes in the idea of “Better Skin For All People,” and follows the Whole Foods Clean Label List, leaving out any ingredients in their products they believe unacceptable. They have developed products that are multipurpose and simplify your skincare routine. The Better Skin Co. believes it’s what is in your products that count, not how many products you use.

Pre-Bridal Skincare Routine

One Year Out – Start with a series of facials — once monthly — to “reset” the skin. Think of it as a workout for the face, and during these facials use the products you’re planning to use throughout the year. “I suggest our Better Skin Mirakle Cream, an anti-aging moisturizer perfect for all ages that is clinically proven to reduce redness, dark spots, and fine lines,” Murphy suggests. “Then top it off with our Epik C Serum for further brightening and tightening. Do all of this in the morning and finish off with a sunscreen (this is very important). At night, use our Gel Kleanse, Better Skin Mirakle Cream, and Retinol Remedy.”

Six Months Out – A twice daily routine is optimal, starting with a cleanser in your morning shower. Follow up with Better Skin Mirakle Cream and Epik C Serum. “In the evening, cleanse with your Gel Kleanse, and then use my personal favorite skin tip: mix our Super H (Hyaluronic) Serum with our Better Skin Amaze Balm,” Murphy recommends. “It will make a paste that you can use like a mask to cover your face and neck. Go to sleep with this luxurious mask and wake up with refreshed skin!”

One Month Out – Continue this same routine with a special focus on your sunscreen. “Keep it on; we don’t want any last-minute sun damage before the big day,” Murphy warns. “I personally do not recommend getting a facial in the seven days leading up to the wedding and definitely do not recommend getting Botox or other fillers within a month of the ceremony. A botched procedure can be hard to cover with makeup, especially if swelling is involved.”

24 Hours Out – Rest, relaxation, and hydration are key in the final 24 hours. “Tired, dehydrated, and stressed skin is hard to hide,” Murphy says. “Stick to your routine, take quick naps, and drink plenty of water.” Following this regimen (and staying consistent) will ensure you feel as beautiful as you possibly can on your wedding day, thus relieving unwanted stress and helping you enjoy the day as it should be. But don’t forget your groom! Remember, there will be two people in the pictures. “Your groom will likely not have the option to cover his flaws with makeup,” Murphy jokes. “Start him on a simple cleanse and moisturizer and protect his skin with sunscreen at least three to six months out. Keep it simple and his face will glow, too!”
