The year 2023 is behind us, and it’s safe to say that the majority of people are happy to see it gone. That’s why there’s so much hope and optimism regarding the year 2024, which has been granted quite an unflattering task: to fix the wrongs that 2023 brought. And even though it’s still early to say what will it be, the only thing one can do is to make New Year’s resolutions that will make life better.
Skincare is something that many people neglect in favor of makeup, and this year is a perfect opportunity to make some skincare New Year’s resolutions that will give you a glowy and beautiful complexion.
So, if you’ve been meaning to introduce some positive changes to your life, then here are some skincare resolutions to consider.
Resolution #1: a regular and feasible routine
If you consider yourself a skincare enthusiast, then you’re familiar with the Korean 12-step routine and similar things that are, frankly, quite time-consuming, especially if you’re busy otherwise. Therefore, it’s in your best interest to come up with a feasible routine that won’t be too demanding, and yet it will still be effective. If this whole talk is making you confused, then keep in mind that the basic routine should consist of cleansing and moisturizing. That’s it, that’s the whole thing. Everything else is entirely up to you.
Resolution #2: removing makeup is a must
Let’s be honest: taking off your makeup is quite a hassle, mainly if you come home late after a few drinks. But, if you want to have healthy and glowy skin, then removing makeup is something you should never skip, no matter how tired you feel. Sleeping with makeup can cause clogged pores, and subsequently lead to acne, blackheads, and other skin issues. If you must use makeup wipes, then feel free to do so, but keep in mind that they should be used sparingly. Instead, it’s better to opt for double cleansing or micellar water.
Resolution #3: professional treatments can help
If you’re someone who struggles with adult acne and scars, then chances are, you’ve had a bad run with an inexperienced facialist who made things worse. That is quite common, which is why many people have reservations about going to a professional to treat their skin problems. But, if your in-home efforts aren’t effective, then opting for professional acne removal treatment will be of more help. However, before you decide on such treatment, make sure to do your research and consult a facialist in case you have any extra questions. Being informed plays a huge role, so it’s important to learn about treatments and post-treatment recovery options.
Resolution #4: sunscreen is important and necessary
The majority of people use sunscreen only during the summer, and only at the beach. However, this is wrong, because sunscreen should be used daily, even if the weather is cloudy and gloomy. Your skin is sensitive, so a quality sunscreen can be of huge help, especially if you suffer from redness and irritations due to cold temperatures and wind. So, next time you’re doing your morning routine, make sure to finish it with a lightweight sunscreen that won’t clog your pores or leave a white residue on your face.
Resolution #5: using products that work
There are so many brands with pretty packages and products that look truly promising. But, there’s a catch: in order for the product to actually work, it needs to be used consistently over a certain period of time (usually from two weeks to one month). So, if you tend to hoard products hoping to use them one day, then stop. Being more minimalist with your product’s shelf will give you a better overview of which products work for you in the long run. Trying different products is surely fun, but if you’re dealing with skincare issues, then it’s important to be more selective with your purchases.
Resolution #6: minding your diet
You’re probably familiar with the saying “you are what you eat”. And when it comes to your skin, that’s definitely true. Hence, if you’re struggling with constant acne or skin oiliness, then it’s highly recommended you remove sugar from your diet. Additionally, lowering the consumption of dairy is also a worthwhile idea, especially if you have acne. Changing the way you eat can have positive effects on your skin, so feel free to implement some changes, but be careful while doing so.
The way you treat your skin can have a tremendous impact on your self-esteem, so be sure to invest in a proper routine and professional treatment if necessary. With a bit of effort and care, these skincare resolutions can make 2021 your best year so far.
